FILM REVIEW: 5 Reasons To Watch “The Moon” Starring EXO’s Kyungsoo, Sul Kyung Gu, And Kim Hee Ae—As It Launches An Emotional Ride That’s About To Land In Philippine Cinemas

“The Moon” features astronaut Hwang Sun Woo (EXO’s Do Kyung Soo) who is stranded in space, and how a former flight director (Sul Kyung Gu as Jae Guk) and NASA general director Yoon Moon Young (Kim Hee Ae) team-up to bring him back to Earth.

Here are 5 reasons why you should watch “The Moon” in cinemas on August 16:

1.) Veteran actors gave life and realism to the film.
Creating a (literally) out-of-this-world set-up is no easy feat. Aside from the good CGI, it’s really the veteran stars that brought the plot to life. Their performance tied the film together, and made the “The Moon” feel as real as a true-to-life historic event unveiling before our eyes.

2.) Kyungsoo’s portrayals never disappoint.
Actor Do Kyungsoo has proven again and again that he’s not just a talented singer as EXO’s D.O., but also a gifted actor. Kyungsoo aced several roles in the past including his iconic characters in “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” “100 Days My Prince,” “Along With The Gods,” “My Annoying Brother,” and “Bad Prosecutor,” among many others.

As Hwang Sun Woo, it’s evident that Kyungsoo clearly understands his character. He knows exactly when to give and withdraw emotions to match the intensity of a given scenario. The magnitude of Kyungsoo’s expressions dictates the direction of the film. His performance is also equally impressive, taking further into account that his role is mostly filmed alone (since he’s trapped in space).

3.) The immersive experience.
Watching “The Moon” makes you feel like you’re part of the story—as if the audience are observing from the space’s control center. The intense emotional attachment viewers have for Hwang Sun Woo’s ups-and-downs during his journey is gripping, exciting, and the true definition of a rollercoaster-rocket-spaceship ride. The hold the plot has for its viewers will keep you at the edge of your seats. However, the storytelling is also not rushed and gives just enough information to make you anticipate the next scene.

But it’s no surprise that “The Moon” can easily hook the audience, as the film is written and directed by Kim Yong Hwa, the man behind the blockbuster and award-winning movies “Along With The Gods” and “200 Pound s Beauty.”

4.) Comedy without trying.
“The Moon” is jampacked with action, mystery, and drama; yet the casual comedic timings gave it a light-hearted touch for that much-needed breather in between tension-filled scenarios.

5.) The star-studded special appearances.
It’s no secret that “The Moon” also features top actors such as Lee Sung Min, Kim Rae Won, and Lee Yi Kyung. Their relationship with the characters is another thing to look forward to.

All in all, “The Moon” is sci-fi, but it touches on humanity; the irony is intriguing and is another reason why it’s worth watching. Whether you’re into Korean entertainment, an EXO-L, a fan of space fiction, or just casually looking for the next film to watch, “The Moon” has elements that can be enjoyed by different types of moviegoers.

“The Moon” launches on August 16 landing via Philippine cinemas.
