Jeon Nok Du (portrayed by Jang Dong Yoon) lived on an isolated island with his family. They lived a seemingly peaceful life, until several female assassins purposely targetted them. Nok Du followed one of the injured assassins, which led him to the sacred windows’ village built besides a gisaeng house. To be able to stay in the village, Nok Du disguised himself as a woman named Lady Kim.
The series follows his personal mission to investigate the real reason behind the attack, all while concealing his gender and identity. But what happens if he learns about the heavy secret of his birth instead, and even starts having feelings with one of the gisaengs-in-training, Dong Dong Ju (portrayed by Kim So Hyun), during his stay?
Jang Dong Yoon nailed his roles as the island swordsman Nok Du, the mild-mannered Lady Kim, and the smart noble Yeon Soo. The relationship between Nok Du and Dong Ju also showcased how love goes beyond a person’s feminine or manly facade.
“Tale of Nokdu” is a series filled with drama, romance, a dash of comedy, and various moral lessons; as the series also showed the importance of personal happiness — choosing peace and living a simple life with the people you love — over greed and other materialistic gains.
This drama is available on Netflix.
