INTERVIEW: “IDK You Yet” singer-songwriter Alexander23 looks up to John Mayer and basketball player Michael Jordan

In an interview with singer-songwriter Alexander23, the rising star from Chicago talked about the people he looks up to in music and in life.

Alexander23 admits listening to a “bunch of very collective music,” and is largely inspired by John Mayer’s music. He also talked about his songwriting process, stating that when the lyrics feel right and the emotion is there, everything follows.

When it comes to collaborating, Alexander23 hopes to work with Puerto Rican singer-rapper Bad Bunny. He also added that he has a lot of people in mind, stating that he has a lot of “heroes,” and would love to collaborate with anyone who can “really contrast” his musical style.

Alexander23 is currently promoting his song “IDK You Yet.” He described the song as “vulnerable, honest, and specific,” and added, “I think that’s why people like it because they can relate to the vulnerability.”

Aside from music inspirations, he also states professional basketball player Michael Jordan as one of his role models. He explained how watching Netflix’s “The Last Dance” made him feel nostalgic as the court in Deerfield, Illinois where Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls played was where he grew up playing basketball, too.

He explained, “The court where he played was where I grew up playing,” and added, “I play point guard all throughout high school,” confirming that he’s good at both music and sports.
