If you’re looking for something to watch after “Memorist,” but with an added romcom genre, can try “The Girl Who Can See Smells.”
“The Girls Who Can See Smells” (also known as “Sensory Couple”) is about a cheerful girl name Oh Cho Rim (played by Shin Se Kyung) who suddenly gains the ability to see scents — a form of synesthesia — and a stoic police inspector named Choi Moo Gak (Park Yoochun) who lost his sense of taste and smell, and is also unable to feel pain — similar to the rare genetic disorder called CIPA.
Despite being complete opposites, the two became unlikely and unofficial partners as Cho Rim helps Moo Gak catch criminals using her ability to find clues. But what happens when they find out that they’re both linked to a serial murder case years ago? Cho Rim’s parents were killed by the so-called “bar code killer,” while Moo Gak’s younger sister was mistakenly killed by the same person.
The drama focuses on uncovering the truth behind the high-profile case, finding out who the “bar code” killer is, and the blossoming romance between a man and a woman with contradicting talents and personalities.
“The Girl Who Can See Smells” also features Nam Goong Min and Yoon Jin Seo, and has some of the best OSTs. The drama aired five years ago via SBS, and is now also available on Netflix.
