“Crash Landing on You” actress Son Ye Jin and “The King: Eternal Monarch” actor Lee Min Ho once worked together in the 2010 Korean drama “Personal Taste,” also known as “Personal Preference.”
In the drama, Son Ye Jin portrays an aspiring furniture designer named Park Kae In, while Lee Min Ho is the ambitious yet struggling architect Jeon Jin Ho.
In order to save his humble architectural firm, Jin Ho needed to win a project bid for the Dam Art Center, and the only way to get on the bidder’s good side is to gain information regarding a modernized Korean traditional house called Sanggojae. However, the house is off-limits, except for Kae In, who resides in Sanggojae. Due to this, Jin Ho pretended to like men as his “personal preference” to gain Kae In’s trust, just so she can agree to let him be her housemate.
But what happens if Kae In ends up falling for Jin Ho? How will Jin Ho reveal that he’s also starting to like Kae In after faking his gender identity?
“Personal Taste” is another classic Korean drama with the usual clichés: good girl falls for the arrogant guy, male and female sharing one house, and romance combined with comedy. A tried and tested combination loved by many. What makes it different, though, is the way the show explores gender roles. It also shows that men can be both feminine and masculine, and how a person’s behavior and appearance does not define one’s sexuality.
The series also aired via ABS-CBN back in 2010-2011 with the title “Perfect Match.”
